Born in Le Havre, a port town in the northeast of France, Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) was raised in a family of music lovers. His life was hard, and he left school at fourteen to begin work. Some years later, he entered a municipal art school, then went on to study at a national art school in Paris, where he mixed with various artists of the time and found inspiration for his original, clear and highly decorative style of painting.
In this exhibition, approximately seventy-five works spanning the life of Dufy will be displayed for the first time in Japan courtesy of the Musée de Lodève and private collections.
