Mitaka City

Ever heard of Poki?

Poki®

Poki is a cartoon character of Mitaka City that was created by Hayao Miyazaki, executive director of Ghibli Museum (an animation museum in Mitaka City), to commemorate the opening of the museum in October 2001. A competition was held to select a name for the character, and the winning name was supplied by a young girl (then aged four) living in Mitaka city called Moe. Poki, who lives in Mitaka no Mori (Mitaka Forest), can be recognized by his distinctive cry, Pokipoki!, which sounds like snapping twigs.
